About
MISS WINNIE’S STORY
Winnifred Joyce Johnston, ne Gayle, was born on July 20, 1932 on the beautiful island of Jamaica. Miss Winnie, as she eventually came to be known, grew up and spent most of her youth and young adult life in Jamaica where she married Wellesley Egbert Johnston and raised six lovely daughters and two handsome sons. Miss Winnie always wanted what was best for her family and made it happen. She worked hard and immigrated to the US, slowly bringing all of her children to his country. With an unmatched level of dedication, she not only achieved her goal of bringing them all to the US, but eventually added two more children from the many she fostered. With love, determination and her fierce personality, she helped all of them navigate their way to bright futures, university and now a restaurant dedicated to her memory. Miss Winnie was always someone to whom you could go to for comfort, guidance or some seriously hilarious stories. She was always there with arms wide open. She made you feel like family. But don’t let that fool you! She was one wild force to be reckoned with if you gave her a reason! She carried her legacy all the way from Jamaica to the United States and spread the love and care far and wide. Our restaurant is dedicated not only to her memory and recipes, some with a twist, but also to her warm, welcoming spirit that made everyone feel right at home.
Welcome to the family.
